Trade shows like World of Coffee San Diego 2026 are exciting, inspiring - and, at times, a little overwhelming. With hundreds of booths, lectures, cuppings, and events packed into a few intense days, it’s easy to leave feeling exhausted and wondering if you actually accomplished what you came for.

For coffee roasters, World of Coffee isn’t just another industry event. It’s one of the rare opportunities to meet coffee producers face-to-face, build relationships, and start conversations that could shape your sourcing for the years ahead.

The key to making the most of it? Preparation, intentional conversations, and realistic expectations. Here are some of our tips for attending World of Coffee San Diego 2026.

Preparing for World of Coffee San Diego 2026

A successful trade show starts before you even arrive, and this is especially true for bigger shows like World of Coffee. A little planning upfront can make all the difference between a scattered experience or a few intense days that will transform the next few years of your business.

Get clear on your needs

Before even stepping onto the show floor, take some time to get clear on why you’re attending and what you hope to gain from attending.

It’s also worth setting one or two clear goals to keep you on track. Maybe you want to meet new producers from a specific origin, or attend a particular workshop. Without a goal, it’s easy to get swept up in the pace of the event and lose direction - and leave wondering if it was even helpful.

Arrive with a (flexible) plan

As anyone who’s attended a World of Coffee event knows, the days are jam-packed. Before you arrive, take some time to review the agenda and exhibitor list so you can identify the lectures, cuppings, and booths that matter most to you.

It helps to roughly time-block your day and, where possible, register in advance for any events or sessions you don’t want to miss. That said, don’t over-plan and leave plenty of buffer time between commitments. Sometimes the most valuable conversations happen when you least expect them.

Helpful resources:

Prepare to meet producers

Trade shows offer a unique opportunity to meet and connect with producers face-to-face. Whether planned or spontaneous, it pays to be prepared if you want to make these meetings count.

It helps to know exactly what you’re looking for in terms of green coffee, but it’s also important to know what kind of producer would be a great match for your needs. Be clear and confident in how you introduce yourself - who you are, what your business does, and what you’re looking for in order to make conversations feel more natural and productive.

Top Tip: Many producers prefer to follow-up via WhatsApp, so it’s worth downloading the app before you go if you don’t have it already.

Tips for making the most of WOC

World of Coffee always moves fast. Here are some things to keep in mind throughout the entire trade show.

Be selective with samples

It’s all too easy to end up with a pile of samples you don’t really need (or want). Every sample costs time and money, and producers often only have a limited number to give away. Even if it feels uncomfortable, producers will appreciate the honesty.

If you’re unsure whether a coffee is right for you, or you don’t have the capacity to follow up, it’s completely fine to say so. You’ll have plenty of other opportunities to find a good fit, after all. Being clear upfront is far more helpful than taking samples you won’t be able to review.

Practice patience

With such a packed schedule, it’s easy to feel rushed. No matter how pressed you feel, a little patience will go a long way. Expect to have to wait a few minutes before starting, or entering, a conversation, or when needing a translation.

Take care of yourself

Trade shows can be physically and mentally demanding, with long days, constant conversations, and a lot to take in. Bring water and snacks, take breaks when you need them, and accept that you won’t be able to do everything.
