Via Algrano's online marketplace, coffee farmers can effortlessly promote and sell their coffees directly to roasters in Europe and the USA. Algrano provides the online (marketplace) and offline infrastructure (logistics, insurance, financing).
Honored with the Best Innovation award by the European Coffee Industry Association in 2015 for our launch and again in 2022 for our achievements, we currently serve over 1,000 sellers and roasters in more than 50 countries. However, that’s just the beginning, our vision is to become the premier platform for direct coffee trading globally.
The role
As Senior Financial Analyst, you are a member of Algrano’s finance team in Zurich Switzerland and report to the Chief Financial Officer. You will be the right hand to Algrano’s CFO. With Algrano’s current fast growth you will take over some of his responsibilities and shape the future of the organization of Algrano’s Finance Department.
Algrano offers you a complex and intellectually challenging environment: On one hand Algrano has multinational trading relationships (payment flows), imports coffees in over 20 countries (tax representations and a daughter company in the US) and transacts and hedges in various currencies and coffee future contracts.
On the other hand Algrano has become an important financial services provider to coffee farmers and roasters. Algrano has elaborated data driven credit scoring models and finances farmers and roasters. In the coming months Algrano will invest in its offering in financial services which will potentially increase your responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Controlling
- Preparing and maintaining together with our internal accountants accurate financial reports.
- Monitor and manage the company's cash flow, including forecasting cash needs over several countries and currencies
- Contribute to the development and enforcement of internal financial policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal control policies across all financial activities
Planning and Reporting
- Go beyond building quarterly financial reports, monthly business and cashflow reports. Share your learnings with internal and external stakeholders, and propose actions to improve our internal systems and reports.
- Developing, coordinating, and directing the preparation of the company's budgets and financial forecasts
Risk Management:
- Identify, assess, mitigate and monitor financial risks, including foreign exchange risk, counterparty risk, interest rate risk, commodity price risk and liquidity risk
Portfolio Management:
- Manage Algrano’s FX and coffee derivative position
Automation:
- Assist in the implementation and improvement of financial systems and processes to enhance efficiency and control
Ad-hoc tasks
- Prepare and present financial analysis to the management
- Support the management in fundraising transactions
Your profile
Your education and professional career has been centered around financial numbers:
- Minimum a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Quantitative Finance, Accounting or Economics. Professional certifications such as CFA or CTP are a plus
- Several years of progressive experience in corporate finance, with a strong emphasis on financial reporting, treasury, and/or financial analysis, preferably within a fast-paced, international environment
- Proven experience with financial modeling, forecasting, and data analysis
- Solid understanding of commodity trade (portfolio management, option and futures trading) and foreign exchange principles is a strong plus.
- Knowledge and application of risk management frameworks and internal control principles.
- Programming skills and experience with BI tools are a plus

- Excellence in English (written and verbal) is required; proficiency in other languages is a plus, given our global operations
- You are based in Switzerland, or eligible to work in Switzerland (EU citizen) and are willing to move to the Zurich area
